Lefthander, Chris Cody pitched five strong innings in holding the visiting Orleans Cardinals to one run, as the A's won their home opener, 4-2. Cody (Manhattan) is in his second year with the A's is now 1-0, the save by Derrick Lutz (George Washington) was his first of the season. The offensive attack was led by first baseman Josh Morris's (Georgia) towering two run homerun in the bottom of the fifth. Additional offense was provided by Adrian Ortiz (Pepperdine) and Todd Frazier (Rutgers) with two hits a piece. Morris was the star with his three RBIS. The A's are 1-1 with a home game scheduled for June 18th against the Brewster Whitecaps.

The visiting Brewster Whitecaps got off to an early 6-0 lead and never looked back in their 8-1 pounding of the A's at Veteran's Field. In what otherwise could be described as cold, wet and dreary night the A's starter Brandon Hynick (Birmingham Southern) was rocked for five earned runs over two innings. The Whitecaps put on a thirteen hit display not often seen early in the season. A trio of Whitecap hurlers held the A's to one run on five hits. The lone bright spot for the A's was Garrett Bussiere (California) who had two hits including his first homerun. The A's hope to leave this one behind as they travel to Bourne on Sunday, June 19th.

Jared Hughes (Long Beach St.) got off to a rough start by hitting two Bourne batters in the first while giving up one run. He quickly settled in while pitching six strong innings. Teammate, Evan Longoria (Long Beach St.) provided the offense with a three run homerun for the A's in the fifth inning. First baseman, Josh Morris (Georgia) added his second homerun of the young season as the A's won 5-1 on a sunny afternoon in Bourne. The A's are now 2-2 and return to Veteran's Field to play the Hyannis Mets on Monday night.

Robert Woodard (UNC) in his first start for the A's this season was brilliant over eight innings allowing five hits while also striking five. Fellow Tarheel, Matt Danford came in a non-save situation and shut the door on the ninth. The A's were demonstrated their offensive might with thirteen hits. Leading the hit attack was Evan Longoria (Long Beach State) who was 4-4 and Baron Frost (USC) and Jacob Dempsey who had two hits a piece. The A's are now 3-2 on the season and head to Hyannis in a home and way series.

The visiting Chatham A's beat the Hyannis Mets 7-0 for their third victory in a row. Lefty, Andrew Miller followed up on his brilliant season from a year ago with a dominating performance in his first start of the season. Miller who was the CCBL major league prospect of the year as a freshman left no doubts as to how he earned that honor by throwing only 98 pitches over 7 shutout innings. Miller had 8Ks and gave up just three hits. Offensively, the A's followed up their 13 hit attack on Monday with an 11 hit attack. First baseman, Josh Morris (Georgia) continued to demonstrate his tremendous power by hitting his league leading third homerun of the season. Hot hitting Evan Longoria (Long Beach State) and Adrian Ortiz (Pepperdine) had two hits a piece. The A's are now 4-2 and tied for first place in the Eastern Division. The A's will be at home Wednesday evening to play their Eastern Division rival Y-D Red Sox. Steve Richard (Maine) is expected to make his second start of the season. The A's are scheduled for a much needed day off on Thursday as they will regroup for a weekend full of action.

Steve Richard (Maine) picked up his first win of the season in combination with Brooks Brown (Georgia), and Derrick Lutz (George Washington) in shutting out the visiting Y-D Red Sox. Richard struck out nine and allowed just two hits in seven strong innings. The A's offense was led by Jacob Dempsey (Winthrop) and Evan Longoria (Long Beach State) who both went two for three. The A's scored their only run in the fourth with Longoria hitting a double, followed by a wild pitch and scoring on a Todd Frazier (Rutgers) groun out. The A's are now 5-2 and a top of the Eastern Division.

The Chatham A's lost to the Brwester Whitecaps 4-2 in a Friday afternoon clash between division rivals. Lefty starter Chris Cody (Manhattan) suffered his first loss of the season and is now 1-1 for the 2005 season. Cody allowed four runs in six innings while striking out eight. The A's had two great opportunities in both the eighth and ninth innings, but failed to get runs across after having two runners on with no outs. Adrian Ortiz (Pepperdine) went 3 for 5 in leading the A's offense. Despite the loss the A's are 5-3 and tied with Brewster a top the Eastern Division. The A's will be back in Chatham for both Saturday (Wareham) and Sunday (Falmouth) evenings.

In a game that saw a couple of lead changes, the Chatham A's came out on the losing side to the visiting Wareham Gatemen, 4-3. A's starter Brandon Hynick (Birmingham Southern) struck out eight in a solid five innings being victimized by some shoddy defense that led to two unearned runs. The score was tied 3-3 until Wareham scored the eventual game winning run in the top of the seventh with a Whit Robbins (Georgia Tech) home run off of losing pitcher Brooks Brown (Georgia). It was Brown's first loss of the season. The A's are now 5-4 and hope to get back in the win column against the Falmouth Commodores on Sunday evening at Veteran's Field.

Jared Hughes (Long Beach State) flirted with a no-hitter going into the ninth inning as he won his second game of the season. Hughes gave up three hits in the top of the ninth breaking up the bid for a no-hitter and shutout. The complete game performance was marked by 12Ks as Hughes pitched to only 29 Commodore batters. The A's fans were quite appreciative of one of the more splendid performances in recent memory. Hughes was greeted with two standing ovations by the faithful. Offensively, the A's put on quite a display with a four home run night. Contributing to the show of power were Evan Longoria (Long Beach State) with his third and hitting their first round trippers were Jacob Dempsey (Winthrop), Todd Frazier (Rutgers), and Anthony Smith (St. John's). The A's are currently tied for first a top the Eastern Division (6-4) and will be meeting Brewster on Monday afternoon in Harwich to determine the tie breaker. Statistically the A's as a team are in first place in pitching and in second in hitting in the CCBL. The A's next home game will be Tuesday night against Wareham. If fans have an early schedule they should notice that this game was originally supposed to be in Wareham, but due scheduling issues had to be moved to Veteran's Field.

Playing Eastern Division rival, the Brewster Whitecaps for the third tim in the last ten days, The A's came out on the winning side as Robert Woodard (North Carolina) and Derrik Lutz (George Washington) combined for a three hit shutout. The win went to Woodard who is now 2-0 and Lutz was credited with his third save. The shutout was third of the season for A's pitchers as they continue to lead the CCBL in team pitching. The offense was led by Josh Morris (Georgia) who went 3 for 4 and Aaron Reza (Modesto JC/ Oklahoma) who had two hits to go along with a walk in four plate appearances. The victory put the A's in sole possession of first place in the East with a 7-4 record. The A's will be at home on Tuesady night against the Waqreham Gatemen. Fans who had early schedules will notice that this game has been moved to Chatham. Gametime will be 7:00 pm at Veteran's Field.

The June 28th A's game against Wareham has been postponed due to impending fog at Veterans Field. With fog rolling through the Lower Cape since Monday evening the 27th, when conditions had not improved significantly by Tuesday afternoon, Chatham and Wareham management agreed to postpone the 7pm ballgame. The decision was made at approximately 4pm in order to save the Gatemen an hour bus ride across Cape Cod.

The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, July 16th at 7pm in Chatham, the next available date for both teams. Though Chatham was prepared to play Wednesday night, June 29th, the Gatemen had already scheduled a team function.

The A's expected starter for Tuesday night was UNC's Andrew Miller who has experienced the frustration of Chatham fog in the past. On July 2nd, 2004, Miller had stuck out 12 batters in four innings against the Falmouth Commodores before thick fog stopped the game just before the fifth inning. By rule, the game was to be replayed from the beginning at a later date, effectively wiping out all statistics, including the 12 K's.

After a fogout and a scheduled day off, the A's had no trouble staying on the winning track, defeating division foe Harwich 6-1. Chatham improves to 8-4 and has sole possession of first place the East. Andrew Miller picks up his second win in as many starts, with the A's bullpen contributing a perfect 8th and 9th.

UNC's Andrew Miller had been slated to start the Tuesday, June 28th game against Wareham, but with that game fogged out, Miller had two extra days of rest. The Tarheel allowed one run on a sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning, scattering four hits over seven innings. With Miller's typical combination of sliders and mid-nineties fastballs, he kept Mariners hitters off balance, striking out six while never facing more than four batters in an inning, walking only one. Brooks Brown from UGA and Derrik Lutz from GWU completed the game for Miller throwing 1-2-3 8th and 9th innings respectively. The hard throwing duo lead the team in appearances with five each, with Lutz picking up three saves.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd, the A's scored four runs on five hits in the bottom of the frame, sending 10 men to bat. After a leadoff walk to Pepperdine's Adrian Ortiz and an infield hit from Mississippi's Alex Presley, Baron Frost (USC) could not get a bunt down. However, two wild pitches from Mulvey not only allowed the runners to advance, but one run to come home. Frost then singled to score Presley from third. Chris Coghlan (Mississippi) singled hard to right moving Frost to second with one out. With two outs, two more runs scored when a ground ball from Jacob Dempsey (Winthrop) led to a throwing error from Harwich shortstop Arman Sidhu. Chris Coghlan picked up his second hit of the night leading off the 5th inning, a solo home run, his first for the A's. Nick Derba was hit by a pitch in the 8th and scored the final A's run after another Harwich error. Final score: Chatham 6, Harwich 1.

The Orleans Cardinals won their first game over the A's this summer by a score of 4-1, in front of more than 4,400 fans at Veterans Field. The Cardinals held the A's scoreless until the 8th inning, as Orleans pitching stranded 12 A's on base--including eight in scoring position. Chatham drops to (8-6) overall, and the Cardinals secure the top spot in the east with 20 points on the season.

Chris Cody got tagged with the loss, giving up 4 earned runs in 6 innings of work, during which he struck out 3 Cardinals and walked three. Josh Santerre worked 3 innings of excellent relief, holding Orleans to 4 runs. Andy Graham picked up the win for Orleans, throwing 5 innings of shutout baseball.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first when Many Burriss led off with a walk, stole second and third bases, and was knocked in on a Colin CurtiRBI double. Burriss would burn the A's again in the fifth, when his RBI bunt single scored Robert Perry for Orleans' second run. A Brett Pill RBI triple followed by a Robert Perry single plated the Cardinals' final two runs. Chatham scratched across its sole run in the eighth, on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Anthony Smith. With the late run, the A's avoided their first shutout of the summer.

The A's defeated the Hyannis Mets 2-1 at Veterans field, snapping a three-game losing streak. Single runs in the 1st and 3rd innings were all the A's would need, as Jared Hughes and Derrick Lutz held the streaking Mets to one run over the course of the game. The game was played in 2 hours and 20 minutes in front of more than 2,300 fans.

Jared Hughes pitched the first six innings, allowing just one run on five hits and striking out seven Mets hitters. The Mets' lone run came in the fourth when Andy D'Alessano singled to start the inning and eventually came around to score on a Teddy Dziuba RBI single. Derrick Lutz relieved Hughes in the 7th and struck out the side. After an easy 1-2-3 8th, Lutz struck out the first two Hyannis batters in the 9th--he would register 7 K's in 3 innings--then allowed a sharp single to Dziuba before getting a groundball out to end the game.

Chatham's first run came in the first inning on a two-out RBI double by Todd Frazier, scoring Evan Longoria from 2nd base. The A's added one more in the fourth, when Baron Frost rapped a basehit into right with the bases loaded to score Aaron Reza. The two runs were sufficient, as Chatham hung on the beat Hyannis by one run.

The A's are home tomorrow night, July 6th, to face Wareham in a makeup of the June 28 fog-out. Rain is in the forecast, but both clubs hope to get the game in. Please tune in for our 6:40 pre-game show as always.

Alex Presely broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth with a two-out RBI single, followed by an insurance RBI from Baron Frost. Derrick Lutz registered his 5th save.

After falling behind 2-0, the A's rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the 7th. Orleans stole the lead right back, plating 2 runs in the bottom of the inning, only to see Evan Longoria tie the game on a solo homer in the eighth. Tied at four, Josh Santerre walked Steve Singleton to start the bottom of the ninth, and he eventually scored on a two-out single to left by Cardinal leadoff hitter Manny Burriss. The A's drop to 1-3 against their rivals in 2005.

Chris Cody worked out of a jam in the fist inning, but gave up 1 in the 2nd on two hits and then 4 on 3 hits in the third. All 4 of those RBIs went to Brad Lincoln who drove a grandslam homerun to right field. Mike Hernandez smacked a homer of his own in the 5th; the last run was tacked on in the top of the 9th.

Baron Frost stood out as a bright spot for the A's. He made a sliding catch in left field and while going 2-4 at the plate. His 4th inning double missed a homerun by inches.

The lone A's run scored in the bottom of the 9th when Alex Presley and Frost singles were followed by an RBI single from Evan Longoria for his league leading 23rd RBI.

Andrew Miller didn't get his fifth win, but the A's rallied from a 1 run 7th inning deficit to win 6-4 against Wareham, the first time Chatham has come from behind in the late innings for a victory.

Miller started against his UNC teamate Daniel Bard of Wareham in Wednesday's makeup game in Chatham. Miller gave up 1 run in the 1st on 2 hits. Chatham promptly responded in the home half with 5 consecutive hits off the Tarheel righty. Alex Presley and Baron Frost doubled. Evan Longoria singled through the middle, but after several poor throws from the Gatemen, Longoria eventually scored giving Chatham a 3-1 lead.

Miller and Bard both settled down for the next several innings, until Miller began to lose control in the 6th. The 6'6" lefty walked Jordan Dodson, hit Mark Sawyer and walked Michael McCallister to load the bases. A wild pitched scored one run, an error from Chris Coghlan plated another, with the third run of the inning scoring on a sacrifice fly from Lance Salsgiver.

With Chatham trailing 4-3, the A's pushed two runs across in the 7th. Adrian Ortiz reached on an E4, Alex Presley singled and then Baron Frost hit a deep fly ball for a sacrifice play to score Ortiz. Longoria picked up another single to extend the inning and with runners on second and third, Chris Coghlan smacked a sac fly to left to plate Presley and give Chatham a 5-4 lead.

Alex Presley singled in Aaron Reza for the last A's run in the 8th.

Brooks Brown was the beneficiary of those runs, getting his first win with a perfect 7th inning, giving up just 1 hit in the 8th. Derrik Lutz retired the side in order in the 9th for his 7th save.

Chatham came back from the brink of defeat to escape a bases loaded, no out debacle in the bottom of the tenth inning. After having allowed his first run all season in the previous inning, the A's closer, Derrik Lutz got a popup, a strikeout and a lineout to end the inning.

Chatham's offense responded in the top of the 11th inning. Garrett Bussiere singled to start the inning, but was replaced at first by Adrian Ortiz after a fielder's choice on a sacrifice attempt. Ortiz moved to second on an Alex Presley single through the middle. After a passed ball advanced both runners, Baron Frost reached base on a fielder's choice as Orleans shortstop Steve Singleton tried get Ortiz straying too far from third, but Adrian was safe. With the bases loaded, a passed ball that could have been ruled a wild pitch allowed Ortiz to score to give Chatham a 4-3 lead. With Presley on third and Frost on second, Longoria struckout and Chris Coghlan was intentionally walked. With the bases loaded and two out, Josh Morris delivered a hard single on a 3-2 pitch through the left side, scoring Presley and Frost, the final runs to score in the game.

With a 3 run lead in the bottom of the 11th, Derrik Lutz polished off the last 3 Cardinals in order, getting a ground ball back to the mound, a flyout to center and a groundout to second base.

Chatham leads the best of 3 series 1 game to none, as the series shifts to Chatham. The A's can clinch at home tonight at 7EST, with a special THIRTY minute A's Extra Pregame Show starting at 6:30.
